Baptisms at Aldridge Parish Church

We are delighted you are interested in finding out more about Baptism at Aldridge Parish Church (or Christening– the words refer to the same event).

Who can be baptised?

Baptism is the way the church marks the start of life as a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ. Adults of any age can decide to take this step for themselves. Parents can also bring their children to be baptised. The birth of a child is a wonderful event, which may have prompted you to think about what is important in life. Parents of course want the very best for their children and bringing their children to church to be baptised is one way of expressing this.

When thinking of having your child baptised here at the Parish church, there are two choices you can consider: you can either have a baptism service or a thanksgiving service, both are a celebration giving thanks to God for the arrival of your child. However, there are some fundamental differences. You will have chance to discuss the differences with our Rector, once you have made a decision whether you would like the service here.

Both baptism and thanksgiving services can now take place in church. There is no charge for either form of service, and the exact date and time of service will be arranged once you have met with our Rector.

Adults are generally baptised and confirmed at the same time, which means that the Bishop is involved in the ceremony. This service is held at the Parish Church or at St Thomas' in Aldridge. If you are interested, please talk to Steve our Rector.

Next step..

Initially please make contact with the church office (01922 455229) any weekday morning between 9.15am and 12.00pm, where we shall be happy to talk you through what you need to know and invite you to our Sunday services.

Our Sunday morning services are informal and often lively, you’ll find a range of ages and families in the service and a warm welcome from our congregation. We’re used to noise from children and really don’t mind. We have two services on a Sunday one at 9.15am in church, and another a little later at 10.25am in our church centre, we have a time where we serve tea, coffee, toast and cakes in between both services in the centre at 10.25am and then our service starts around 10.45am.  Childrens groups for pre-school, primary and secondary age meet during this second service.

It is important to mention at this stage that you are entitled to have your child baptised at your local parish church, the church whose boundaries your home falls within, or of course at the church you regularly worship at.  If you are uncertain at all as to which Parish you live in, we can check this for you when you call. We look forward to welcoming you.
